Dog Walker Encounters Turkeys in Challock Woods
A dog walker had a surprising encounter with a group of aggressive turkeys in the woods. Rob Kerner was walking on the North Downs Way near Challock when he saw 14 turkeys on the path.
The turkeys appeared around 2 PM on Monday. It is believed they may have escaped from a nearby farm or smallholding.
Mr. Kerner, who was with his wife, described the birds as “brave” and said they were only unsure about his dog. “I saw them and thought ‘wow’ – I was definitely shocked,” the 60-year-old stated. “They were so aggressive and confident and would not back down.”
Since the encounter, Mr. Kerner has not seen the flock again. He shared a photo of the turkeys on social media to find out who owned them. This post caused a stir online.
One commenter said, “Thank goodness they’ve avoided Christmas.” Another added, “They’ve escaped! They get to live another year.” Mr. Kerner has not been able to find out who the birds belong to.
Turkeys are native to North America and were first brought to Europe in the 1500s.
