Sex Attacker Jailed for Eight Years

A sex attacker who abused two teenage girls in care has been jailed for eight years.

Alexander Boyd was supposedly looking after the young victims at a children’s home in Argyll and Bute.

Instead, the 56-year-old preyed on the pair, including raping both.

Boyd denied the crimes during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was found guilty of four sex charges spanning from 1998 to 2001.

Boyd, of Inverness, received a 10-year extended sentence, with eight years to be spent in prison.

Judge Tom Hughes stated that the sentence was to protect the public upon Boyd’s release.

Judge’s Remarks on the Case

The judge noted, “It is quite clear through the proceedings that the whole circumstances are aggravated by what was a significant breach of trust on your part.”

He added, “You committed these offences against two young victims who were in your care.”

At that time, they were vulnerable, and society expected Boyd to care for them and look after their best interests.

Instead, he seriously sexually offended against both of them.

The victim impact statements highlighted the significant problems caused in their lives due to Boyd’s conduct.

Judge Hughes commended both women for their courage in coming to court to give evidence before a jury.

He expressed hope that they found some consolation in the jury believing them.

He concluded, “It becomes abruptly clear that anyone who commits offences like this will face justice.”

Legal Consequences

Boyd was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and is subject to two non-harassment orders, prohibiting him from contacting his victims for an indefinite period.
