Whitchurch Silk Mill launches a Heritage Craft Workshop Programme to promote traditional skills and creativity starting in January.
Whitchurch Silk Mill has introduced its Heritage Craft Workshop Programme. This program offers beginner-friendly sessions aimed at sparking creativity and preserving traditional craftsmanship.
Skilled artisans will lead the workshops, which are designed to build community. Participants will learn, create, and connect with the art of making.
Sue Tapliss, the director of Whitchurch Silk Mill, stated, “We’re proud to launch this programme of heritage craft workshops to help people rediscover the joy of making and reconnect with traditional skills.”
She added, “Each session is designed to be relaxed, friendly and inspiring, perfect for anyone who wants to learn something new and create something truly unique.”
Be Agnew, a Weaver at the Mill, will share their love of darning in the new Heritage Crafts Programme.
The programme will start in January with a workshop focused on darning. This session will teach attendees how to repair and revive textiles to extend the life of their garments.
In February, participants can learn how to weave wall hangings. Future sessions will cover beginner-level knitting, braiding, warping, embroidery, and crochet.
Each class is structured to support newcomers, with expert guidance and all materials provided.
The mill aims to contribute to the broader narrative of making in the UK, emphasizing Whitchurch Silk Mill’s role in this story.
Spaces are limited, so early booking is advised. For more information and to view the full schedule, visit the Whitchurch Silk Mill ‘What’s On’ page or download the workshop guide.
