In Keld, the Resource Centre announces a new name and vision for 2026, enhancing its role in local history and culture.
The decision comes after significant growth and expansion at the centre. This includes the successful launch of the Old School Museum and the recent acquisition of a large collection from the Swaledale Museum in Reeth.
These developments have helped the venue become a hub for local history and culture in Upper Dale. The trustees believe that the name change will reinforce their goal of preserving and sharing the heritage of the area.
The charity plans to launch a new website at www.keldheritage.co.uk in January 2026 to reflect its rebranding. This site will allow the charity to share more archive photographs and documents online, making them accessible to everyone.
Despite these changes, the Visitor Centre and Old School Museum will remain open daily. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. The Manse is also available for bookings for relaxing breaks and retreats, with all income supporting Keld Heritage Centre’s community projects.
Trustees have also introduced a 2026 events program, featuring new workshops, talks, and walks for all to enjoy.
Helen Guy, curator/project manager and trustee/director, expressed excitement about the new name, stating, “We’re thrilled to give our centre a name that truly reflects the scope of our work.”
She added, “Keld Heritage Centre is not just a group of buildings; it is now the home for Upper Dale’s history, ensuring the traditions, family history, and stories are safeguarded and shared for future generations.”
Helen also thanked the centre’s growing team of volunteers for their support in various roles, including leading walks and maintaining the centre.
