Roadworks on the M90 near Fife will disrupt travel with overnight closures and diversions from January 14 to February 7, affecting Junctions 1B and 1C.
Improvement Work on M90 Scheduled for January
Improvement work will occur this month on the M90 between Junctions 1B Ferrytoll and 1C Admiralty starting Wednesday, January 14.
Details of the Resurfacing Scheme
The resurfacing scheme is led by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland. It will take place at two locations along the northbound route. This will include overnight carriageway closures and a continuous slip road closure.
Closure Times and Diversions
| Closure Type | Location | Closure Times | Estimated Delay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Closure | Northbound between Junctions 1B and 1C | 8pm to 6am, Mon-Fri, Jan 14 – Feb 7 | 7 minutes, 2.1 miles |
| Continuous Closure | Junction 1C northbound off-slip | 6am, Feb 3 – 6am, Feb 6 | 5 minutes, 2.3 miles |
The northbound carriageway will be fully closed from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday, starting January 14 and ending on the morning of February 7. A diversion will be in place via Milne Road, Millenium Avenue, Castle Road, and A985 Admiralty Road, adding an estimated seven minutes and 2.1 miles to journeys.
Additionally, the Junction 1C northbound off-slip will be closed continuously from 6am on February 3 until 6am on February 6. During daytime hours, drivers wishing to exit at Junction 1C will be directed to continue north to Junction 2 Masterton. They will then use the A823(M) westbound to Pitreavie Roundabout to return eastbound, re-joining the M90 southbound and exiting at Junction 1C. This diversion is expected to add around five minutes and 2.3 miles to journeys.
Weather Dependency and Official Statements
The works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are adverse. Tommy Deans, South East Network Manager at BEAR Scotland, stated, “These surfacing improvements on the M90 will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.”
He added, “It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works. We’ve scheduled works on the main carriageway to be carried out during overnight hours to minimize any disruption. However, due to the depth of construction required on the Junction 1C northbound off-slip, these works require a continuous day and night closure.”
Deans also advised, “If you need to use this route during the works, please plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion. We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding.”
