Scott Norris Admits to Theft of Canada Goose Coat

Scott Norris, 39, describes himself as ‘a digital creator’ on Facebook. He was visiting Chelmsford when he took a Canada Goose coat from the Flannels store in the High Chelmer shopping centre.

Court Appearance and Criminal History

Norris appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court. The court learned he has 34 convictions for 68 offences, most of which are theft.

Details of the Theft

Rebecca Debenham, prosecuting, stated: “He was seen outside Flannels, looking around, and then five minutes later he returned to the shop, browsing for a short time.”

She continued, “He took various coats, looked at them, put them back, and then picked up the Canada Goose coat and walked out of the shop.”

Debenham noted that “the coat wasn’t recovered.”

Previous Sentences and Rehabilitation

The theft occurred in July 2024, one month before Norris received a suspended sentence from Brighton Crown Court for possession of amphetamine with intent to supply. He is required to complete a series of rehabilitation days as part of that sentence.

Norris’s Admission and Statement

Norris, of Whitehawk Road, Brighton, admitted to one charge of theft and appeared in court unrepresented. He addressed Deputy District Judge Sarah Hannah, saying, “I was with my friend, we started the night drinking, etcetera, in Chelmsford – I was drinking in Wetherspoons with him.”

He added, “I’ve walked past, went in there… it was just an impulsive thing.”

Norris explained, “It was just bad times at the time – I didn’t have any work.”

He mentioned he is in the process of getting diagnosed with ADHD next week and said, “I don’t think things through properly.”

Norris stated he has been working with probation, doing courses, and getting back to work. He expressed, “I’m sorry.”

He also noted he is back at work as a scaffolder, earning £400 a week.

Judgment and Compensation

Deputy District Judge Hannah ordered Norris to pay £1,250 in compensation to Flannels and £110 in court costs.
