Brighton and Hove City Council plans a resident parking scheme for the Nevill area in Hove, with consultations starting in spring and implementation expected by late 2027.
Consultation for Resident Parking Scheme in Hove
Hundreds of people may soon have their roads included in a resident parking scheme. This scheme could start operating in the summer or autumn of next year.
A preliminary consultation may begin in the spring in the Nevill area of Hove. This comes three years after some residents asked councillors to take action.
In September 2022, residents requested parking controls from Brighton and Hove City Council. They were worried about road safety for children at nearby primary and secondary schools.
Concerns About Parking
Recently, Conservative councillor Ivan Lyons inquired about when residents on Nevill Road, Nevill Avenue, and nearby streets would be consulted about a controlled parking zone.
Residents expressed concerns about long-term parking of campervans and large vehicles. They also noted commuter parking from office workers at Legal and General and passengers using Hove and Aldrington railway stations.
Frustrated residents asked to join the zone P light-touch scheme, which covers streets from Hove Park to Withdean.
Next Steps for Consultation
Labour councillor Trevor Muten, the council’s cabinet member for transport, stated that a preliminary consultation is expected in the spring.
Councillor Muten said, “Officers will analyze the responses and propose a further detailed design consultation. This will indicate the parking arrangements and street layout if a scheme is introduced to the area.”
He added that the timescale for introducing controlled parking is about 18 months. Therefore, any scheme for the area would likely be implemented during summer or autumn of 2027.
Council officials will meet with Westdene and Hove Park ward councillors early in the new year to discuss further details.
