A major road in Ingleby Barwick will close northbound for two days to facilitate construction of a new Amazon delivery station and roundabout
Construction of Amazon Delivery Station Near Ingleby Barwick
Construction is progressing near Ingleby Barwick as Amazon builds a new delivery station beside Preston Farm Industrial Estate.
Road Closures and Traffic Management
To facilitate this development, a new roundabout is being added to Queen Elizabeth Way, a key route in and out of Ingleby. Applebridge, the company managing the construction, has announced a full northbound closure of the road from Saturday, January 17, at 7 AM until Monday, January 19, at 6 AM. This closure is necessary to complete some work “safely and efficiently.”
The number six bus from Ingleby Barwick to Stockton will continue to run at usual times and will be guided through the construction area, according to Applebridge.
Timeline and Speed Limits
The roadworks began last July and are expected to last around 60 weeks. Currently, there is a temporary 40 mph speed limit in place until November, and a weekend closure is anticipated in June.
During the roadworks, motorists will be diverted through Ingleby Barwick, along Thornaby Road, and back to Preston Farm Industrial Estate via the A66.
Details on the New Warehouse
A spokesperson for Amazon stated, “We’re excited about the development and look forward to sharing more details in the future.”
Site Access and Operations
Once operational, the site will have two entrances: one via the new roundabout on Queen Elizabeth Way and another off Lockheed Close in the industrial estate. The entrance on Lockheed Close is expected to be the main access point for staff vehicles and HGVs.
Plans indicate that the van operation will utilize the Queen Elizabeth Way entrance, which will have “ample queuing space up to a secure access point with a guard kiosk.”
