The Met Office has issued a warning about difficult driving conditions. On Sunday night, temperatures are expected to drop to -8C, with more scattered snowfall. A thaw is not expected until midweek. Tom Morgan, a meteorologist with the Met Office, told the Belfast Telegraph that Sunday night “will be the last of the widely severe frosty weather.”

He added, “We can see around five to 10 cm in a few spots over the next 24 hours, especially in the Sperrin mountains. This will create difficult driving conditions as people return to school and work.”

“I recommend allowing extra time for travel because roads may be covered in snow and ice,” he said. “It will remain cold throughout the week, but not as bitterly cold as the weekend. Rain and sleet on Tuesday will lead to some thawing of the snow, but this also carries the risk of ice.”
