Local Government Boundary Commission Seeks Input for Electoral Review

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England is seeking feedback from residents about their communities. This input will help ensure that new wards accurately reflect the size and shape of local areas.

Purpose of the Electoral Review

An electoral review is underway to ensure that each local councillor represents a similar number of electors. The aim is to align the wards with community identities.

Changes in Councillor Numbers

The commission has determined that Warrington Borough Council will have 60 councillors, an increase from the current 58.

Upcoming Elections

The next council elections in Warrington are scheduled for May 2028.

Consultation Details

Andrew Scallan, deputy chair of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, launched the consultation. He stated, “We are looking for your views, as local people, on how you think Warrington should be represented in wards that reflect local communities and identities.”

He added, “By telling us about where you live and where you access local services, it will help us to create appropriate and meaningful boundaries.” He encouraged residents to share their thoughts on local features that define their communities.

Consultation Timeline

The consultation will last for 10 weeks and will close on March 16, 2026. The commission will use local feedback to draft proposals for new ward boundaries.

A second round of consultation will occur after the proposals are created. This stage is expected to begin on June 30, 2026.
