A 23-year-old repeat offender was jailed for 24 weeks after stealing from multiple vehicles in Warrington during a four-day crime spree in August
Ellis Rigby Sentenced for Vehicle Offenses in Warrington
Ellis Rigby has been jailed again for interfering with parked vehicles in Warrington over four days.
The 23-year-old appeared before Chester Magistrates’ Court recently. He faced four counts of theft from a motor vehicle and three counts of vehicle interference.
Rigby pleaded guilty to all charges. The magistrates proceeded to pass sentence.
Details of the Offenses
Andrew Sinker, prosecuting, stated that the offenses occurred in Warrington between August 15 and 18 last year.
Rigby first targeted a vehicle on Bridge Lane in Appleton, stealing a laptop. He then broke into another vehicle and took loose change.
Two days later, he returned to Bridge Lane and stole a watch, t-shirt, and baseball cap from a woman’s car.
On the same day, he also stole a wallet from a vehicle parked on Dale Lane in Appleton.
Additionally, he interfered with a Toyota RAV4 on Bridge Lane, a Mini Cooper on Clydesdale Road in Appleton, and a Toyota Prius on York Street in Latchford.
Criminal Record and Sentencing
The court noted Rigby’s criminal record, which includes previous convictions for theft and fraud.
Magistrates stated that Rigby is a repeat offender. They believed the offenses were serious enough to warrant a custodial sentence.
It was also noted that the offenses occurred while he was under a community order and post-sentence supervision.
Rigby, of Broadbent Avenue in Latchford, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison, to be served immediately.
No orders were made for court costs or a victim surcharge, with priority given to compensation of £500.
Police Statement
Cheshire Police commented on Rigby, stating: “Ellis Rigby is a prolific and opportunistic thief who has blighted the neighbourhoods of Warrington for a considerable amount of time.”
They added, “We welcome the news that he has been handed a custodial sentence, which will hopefully give him ample time to reflect on his actions.”
Police emphasized the importance of keeping personal and high-value items secure at home. They advised against leaving items in vehicles where thieves can easily access them.
