Sedgefield Police posted on Facebook: “We are seeing increasing reports of vehicle thefts in our area, with approximately 25 percent of stolen vehicles being Nissan Navaras. We are urging residents to be vigilant and increase vehicle security.”

Increased Patrols Due to Rising Thefts

This warning follows increased patrols in another County Durham town due to a rise in vehicle thefts. Last month, thieves targeted Ford Fiestas in Stanley and Consett, prompting officers to urge drivers to remain vigilant.

Durham Police stated that the Stanley neighbourhood team has been “proactively patrolling the local area.” It is believed that opportunists are trying door handles to find unlocked cars. In some cases, they are bypassing keyless systems using technology to unlock and start the vehicles.

Previous Incidents Involving Nissan Navaras

This is not the first time Nissan Navaras have been targeted. Last July, police issued an urgent warning after several thefts in Darlington. Suspects were believed to be using scanning devices to unlock the cars, start the engines, and drive away.
