Brochures Delivered for Major Development on Former NHS Land

Brochures have been delivered to residents this month about a major development on former NHS land between Fossetts Way and Prittlewell Camp Hillfort.

The plans, created by developer Keepmoat, received planning approval in July last year.

Keepmoat has launched a website promoting homes at the site. Thirty percent of these homes are designated as “affordable housing,” which includes a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses.

Residents have welcomed the plans, calling them “well designed.”

Community Reactions

Peter Lovett, a Shoebury resident, expressed his support for the plans. He said, “I think from looking at what has been set out it looks like a well thought out plan for the site and I certainly wouldn’t object to it.”

He added, “We were pleased to see that someone has stepped forward and has established something. It now looks like they are going to go ahead with it. There has been a lot of talk and waiting around this site and others nearby, and we’re keen to see it get done.”

Lovett noted, “From what’s included, it’s not one of these developments where they will have 40,000 lorries delivering dirt. The infrastructure links look reasonable with plenty of space for parking.”

He mentioned, “I think a lot of residents would have preferred to keep the site as green belt, but we are also aware that people need homes. As they say, 30 percent will be affordable, which should help people get onto the housing ladder.”

Lovett concluded, “You could certainly debate what measure is affordable. A lot of first-time buyers won’t be looking straight towards three and four-bed homes, but it’s still a concession that means people who are born here will be able to get a house here.”

Official Statements

Southend Council welcomed the news that housebuilding would soon begin at the site. They highlighted the urgent need for homes in the area.

Anne Jones, Southend Labour councillor for planning and housing, stated, “We’re pleased to see the Bluebell Place housing scheme, which was granted planning permission by the council, now moving towards delivery.”

She added, “It’s an important step in providing the much-needed homes our city needs.”
