Rochford Road Repairs Underway

An update from Labour Southend Council leader Daniel Cowan stated that repairs on Rochford Road, which is currently closed, will continue until next Thursday.

Essex and Suffolk Water, responsible for the area’s pipe infrastructure, confirmed that engineers are urgently working at the leak site to repair the water main.

Residents are experiencing severe delays today and are advised to avoid the roundabout between Rochford Road and Manners Way due to diversions in place.

Emergency Closure Notice

The council leader said, “Please note that it has been necessary to enact an emergency closure notice for Rochford Road.”

“Officers inspected the site at 9:07 AM this morning following a burst 12-inch water main. Essex and Suffolk Water have operatives on site, and Essex Highways have been notified as this will also affect their road network.”

“Repairs are required, and works are currently anticipated to last until January 15, 2026. Where possible, please find alternative routes.”

“Access for residents will be maintained via diversions where appropriate.”

Impact on Local Businesses

The flooding has forced some businesses, including the nearby McDonald’s, to close today. However, Southend Airport and the adjacent retail park remain open.

Carly Gray, head of water networks for Essex & Suffolk Water, stated, “Our team is currently dealing with a burst water main on Rochford Road.”

“Due to the extent of the damage and to ensure the safety of both road users and our team while we carry out the necessary repairs, we have had to close the road between the roundabout outside the Southend Airport retail park and the Anne Boleyn pub.”

“The retail park and airport remain open, but drivers should expect some delays.”

“Our teams are working hard to make sure the water supply to customers and businesses is not affected. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, and we would like to thank customers for their patience.”
