The Big Rock Pool Challenge BioBlitz Battle
Nature lovers can visit Shoebury East Beach on Saturday, January 10, for The Big Rock Pool Challenge BioBlitz Battle. This event is organized by the Rock Pool Project and runs from 11am to 1:30pm. It aims to help people shake off the January blues by reconnecting with nature along the shoreline.
Participants will explore rock pools in Shoebury during a 90-minute BioBlitz. They will use the iNaturalist app to record the species they discover. These records contribute to national biodiversity data and help people learn to identify marine life.
Each species logged carries a rarity score. Results will be compared at the end of the session to see who has the highest total.
Elvis-Themed Evening at Westcliff Muthu Hotel
Music fans can enjoy an Elvis-themed evening at the Westcliff Muthu Hotel on Saturday, January 10, from 6:30pm to 11pm. The Long Runs Elvis Night marks the fourth year of this event and promises a lively celebration of Elvis Presley’s career.
Although it is not a tribute act, the band will perform songs from decades of Elvis’s music. There will be plenty of opportunities for dancing, laughter, and surprises. The night will also feature record spinning, guest performers, a bar, and a dance floor. A limited number of tables can be reserved through the hotel.
Vulcan VIP Visit at London Southend Airport
Aviation enthusiasts can take part in a Vulcan VIP Visit at London Southend Airport on Saturday. Arrival is from 9am for a 9:30am start, with each visit lasting around four hours. Guests will receive a guided tour of Vulcan XL426, including the rare chance to climb into the cockpit and meet the engineering team responsible for maintaining the aircraft during its winter servicing programme.
Places are limited to 10 people and must be booked in advance. Tickets cost £70 per person, plus a booking fee. This includes a welcome presentation with complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits.
