Brothers Sentenced for Violent Rampage in Cambridge

Two brothers have been jailed for their roles in a violent incident in the center of Cambridge. Rhys Nichols, 25, and Lewis Nichols, 28, were part of a group that started the violence at about 3 a.m. on Saturday, 14 May 2022, at Lola Lo’s nightclub.

The brothers used belts to fight each other outside the nightclub. They then moved with others to Downing Street, where they attacked an innocent bystander outside the Hilton Hotel.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The group continued to fight in Regent Street until officers arrived.

Sentencing Details

The Nichols brothers, both from Mill Road, St Ippolyts, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and affray. Rhys also admitted to assaulting an emergency worker. Rhys was sentenced to 18 months in prison, while Lewis received 19 months at Cambridge Crown Court on 15 December.

PC Rob Tindall, who investigated the case, stated, “People should be able to go out in our town and city centres without having to witness this kind of mindless violence. The victim was on a night out and minding his own business but ended up in hospital following this unprovoked attack. The prison sentences handed out to the brothers, together with the other convictions, show how seriously this kind of behaviour is taken by the justice system.”
